Beers at Beers

Attending this year’s Craft Brewers Conference (CBC) was fitting for someone with the last name of Beers. With a love of beer being a common thread for all attendees, it was wonderful to watch individuals from all over the world interact and bond over a shared passion. The complexities that accompany brewing blows my mind. From ingredient selection to canning and packaging, the world of beer production is rooted in tradition while simultaneously keeping up with always-evolving technological advances.

A malty rich aroma welcomed me into the convention center and let me tell you, it was a great way to start my day. Being around such a friendly and energized group of people was absolutely invigorating. Brewers, you are awesome! Keynote speakers such as Russian River Brewing Company’s Natalie Cilurzo acted as a reminder that an industry once primarily dominated by males has grown leaps and bounds over the last several years. Stopping by Pink Boots Society’s booth was yet another example of how welcoming and inclusive this industry truly is.

Mother Nature made her way into the beer industry and doesn’t appear to be leaving anytime soon. When looking at the food and drink industry as a whole, the concept of “natural is best” is a common theme for 2022, and beer has joined in on the party. Booths such as Les vergers Boiron promoted the incorporation of natural fruit products into beer while the National Honey Board was there to educate brewers about the incorporation of honey into their beers. I walked away excited to watch what new products will hit the beer aisles in the months to come.

Eco-friendly extended beyond ingredients at this year’s show. There were multiple companies such as Brewery Branding Co. that promoted fair trade swag for breweries. Speaking of swag, I am currently wearing my beekeeper socks from the National Honey Board as I type this. Exhibitors take note for next year, socks = great swag. Another favorite of mine was The Beer Bat. Wrigley Field, please consider stocking these for my beloved Cubs games!

Next year’s Craft Brewers Conference is heading to the Music City: Nashville! I for one am ready to sing more praises for all-things-beer in 2023. See you next year, CBC!
